Second Grade's Celebration

Second Grade did not illustrate last week, because we were too busy celebrating our win in the No "W" Contest!! We narrowed down our theme to 2 choices- popcorn or playdough. The final choice? Both!

It's not really a party without popcorn, so we decided we could have a Popcorn AND a Playdough Party! Each art student spent the whole art hour molding, creating, bending, shaping, and playing with Playdough.

Then we all took a dive into the sea of flavors of popcorn. The favorite was caramel corn of course! (I prefer the cheddar!) After we made a huge mess, we cleaned up as fast as we could. Whoever I saw working the hardest was able to pick their playdough color first... this was a big deal, because this was for KEEPS!

Wow! It was such a fun time, and I am so very proud of their hard work and excellent behavior!

Good work Second Grade!

And the winner is...

Hello Friends!

Well, as most of you know, it turned out that instead of seeing my precious art students, I am looking at this:

The snow is so beautiful, but unfortunately it also made it too dangerous to get to school both Thursday and Friday! That means no fun art classes for grades 1st - 4th! As today was the last day before Christmas break, we will just move our Christmas art activities to next year! (January 2011!)

And now, the results of the No "W" Contest!!
There were no "W's" given out this week! So every class received a perfect 10! Yay! Sadly, there were some weeks where a few had to get a "W", there were also some weeks where classes showed exceptional behavior by helping me clean up, saying nice things to friends, etc. There is one class who never received a "W" and who also earned 6 extra points along the way! That makes the winner of the 2010 No "W" Contest....

2nd Grade!!

As soon as we get back from Christmas break, we will plan our fun party with the theme that they will choose. I have given the classes some ideas, and so far the biggest interests are Popcorn Party, Clay Party, and Ice cream Party! Sounds exciting! As always, we will post some pictures of the fun to come!

Thanks for visiting! I hope you have a very happy and safe Christmas with your family and friends! Remember to thank God for all His many blessings! He has been so good to us, and He should be the center of our Christmas celebrations!

May your days be merry and bright, and may all your Christmases be white!

The No "W" Contest

So have you heard the word that the winner of the No "W" Contest will be announced this Friday? It's true! This is the very last week for students to earn a very cool party for showing great behaviors! Let me refresh your memory about the contest.

The No “W” Contest is a challenge for all elementary art students to obey the art rules with a great attitude.

How does it work?
·       Each class starts out with a daily total of 10 points.
·       If any student receives a “W”, one point is taken away. You can lose up to 10 points in one day.
·       If all students do an exceptional job, they can receive up to 5 extra points!
What is a “W” anyway?
·       “W” stands for wait. If you receive a “W”, you must wait 5 minutes away from the art table while everyone else continues to work. It also costs your class a point!
·       You can receive a “W” for breaking art rules such as excessive talking when Mrs. Edwards is teaching, making fun of others’ artwork, being careless, having a bad attitude or horseplay.

The class that has the most points at the end of the week gets to have a party with a theme of their choice when they return from Christmas break.
Remember, anything can happen this week, so all students must be on their very best behavior! Check back on Friday for the results of the contest!
Merry Christmas!
